Paradiene 20 is the first ply of Paradiene 20/30 Systems. The base ply is an elastomeric asphalt blend reinforced with a fiberglass mat that absorbs roof stresses, while the granule-surfaced top ply, Paradiene 30 or Parafor 30, shields the base from the elements and mechanical abuse. These high-performance modified bitumen base plies can be applied in approved Type III or Type IV asphalt, PA-1000 Polymer Asphalt, Siplast PA-311 Adhesives, or SFT Adhesive.

Paradiene 20/30 SBS-Modified Bitumen Membrane Systems

There are certain physical properties that high-quality SBS-modified bitumen membrane systems (e.g., Siplast Paradiene 20/30 system) have that help enable it to maintain performance over decades of service on a roof. It starts with the asphalt blend, which drives some of the physical requirements for long term performance. The reinforcement combined with the upper and lower layers of SBS-modified bitumen determine the primary physical properties and performance characteristics of the sheet. In other words, what Siplast does prior to and during manufacture of the Paradiene 20 and Paradiene 30 sheets is a huge part of what leads to the roof's potential long service life. Of course, the installation, the design, and maintenance of the roof also play a big role. Assuming that those aspects are handled properly, it is the SBS-modified bitumen formulation combined with the reinforcement (i.e., the roof membrane) that composes the backbone of the system that sets up the installed roofing system for long-term success.

Waterproofing Membrane Types, Applications, and Best Practices

Waterproofing membranes help protect structures from water damage by creating a barrier against water infiltration. This makes them ideal for applications that involve higher levels of moisture due to environmental conditions or the presence of water, such as foundations, parking garages, and green roofs.

What to Know About Building Enclosure Design

Similar to how a winter jacket protects you from the elements, a building envelope protects the contents of a building throughout its lifespan. A successful building enclosure design separates the interior of the building from the exterior while controlling the exchange of heat, air, and moisture between the two. It can extend the life of building components and help keep occupants comfortable year-round.

        Stormwater Management for Resilient Design

Urban flooding has become an increasingly frequent occurrence in recent years, prompting the need for effective stormwater management at commercial properties. In addition to the damage floods can cause, uncontrolled stormwater flow creates potential risks to individuals' health and well-being. If debris, pollutants, and trash are allowed to flow into drainage and sewer systems, this could ultimately end up contaminating local drinking water.

PVC vs. TPO: A Straightforward Guide for New Roof Designers

If you are just getting started in the roofing industry, chances are you have already come across the term single-ply roofing. It is a popular roof system used on commercial and industrial buildings, especially low-slope rooftops, and offers a solid balance of durability, ease of installation, and energy efficiency.

Just as the roof provides a protective barrier against the elements for a building interior, sealants are essential for maintaining the integrity of the roof itself. By sealing the flashing around breaks and gaps caused by pipes and other penetrations, sealants perform a vital function in the execution of the best waterproofing for roof systems. Sealants can also be used to fill holes around solar panel fasteners or adhere layers of roofing materials as well as repairing leaks and chimney damage caused by the environment.

Understanding Diagonal Wrinkling in Roof Membrane Base Flashing

We've all seen it: diagonal wrinkling, sometimes called "racking," appearing in membrane base flashings along parapet walls. While seemingly minor, this condition can compromise the long-term performance and watertight integrity of a roof membrane system.

Proper Design of a Roof System's Thermal Insulation Layer

Polyisocyanurate insulation (polyiso) has the highest market share in the roofing industry–approximately 70%. It's been the market leader for decades. Why? Because polyiso has the highest R-value per inch of insulating materials that are commonly used in the roofing market. There are other insulation types that come close, but none that are widely used match the R-5.7 per inch insulating value of polyiso. Polyiso is also widely used because of its other benefits: its availability, material compatibility, impact and fire performance, general durability, relative moisture resistance, and its ability to be attached/secured by various methods. Given its characteristics, there's good reason polyiso insulation is a market leader.
