Challenge
In addition to needing a replacement for the existing coal tar pitch roof, which was past its useful service life on this 75-year-old diesel engine manufacturing facility, Detroit Diesel was in the process of installing new production equipment in one area of this busy plant. Also, in keeping with a company with a history of innovation in eco-friendly technology for their industry, Detroit Diesel was looking for a solution that would help them meet their goals for pollution reduction.
Solution
• A two-ply Paradiene 20/30 Roof Membrane System was chosen as a strong, conservatively designed way to protect the plant and its valuable equipment from water intrusion • The membrane features an Eco-Activ® cap sheet surfaced with Noxite® granules, which will actively work to remove harmful NOx molecules to improve air cleanliness • The application used Siplast’s PA-311 Cold Adhesive to create a tenacious interply bond that avoided the use of open flames and asphalt fumes for plant workers during installation
